siwpyr tramp

the anturion siwpyr-tramp (adventures of a super-tramp) began in January 2012, as a way for me to acknowledge and thank the musicians who had been so kind to me - fed me with food and music.

unfortunately the series was short lived - just five shows - there were so many more musicians that had touched me.  it was...

ionawr - cerddcegin - kitchen music - featuring Elsa Davies (fiddle) & Gwilym Hardy (fiddle).  manyhours were spent with these two in my kitchen on north road, aberystwyth - hours and hours of musical bliss, the cosmos never far from our fingertips...

chwefror - cerdd-iaith - language through music - featuring Diarmuid Johnson (flute & poetry).  he had a big impact on my welsh.  he was to have further influence with his brilliant poetry, translations of Alun Cilie, photography, & Irish music with Polly...

mawrth - cerdd-taith - music of the minstrel - featuring Stef Balesi (crwth, pipes, mandola) & Huw Owen (bard).  Peni Ediker (pipes, oboe) was sick and couldn't join us unfortunately.  So tired from traveling, I remembered canada and felt sorrow... Stef, always brilliant and free, corsican & welsh tunes flow off his fingers with a joy and ease - joined by my great friend Huw, the poet, at his finest and most elegant, we recreated some ancient ap Huw, time-travelers both...

ebrill - cerdd-bont - bridging music - featuring Martin Leamon (guitar, bouzouki) & Sille Ilves (fiddle, hiiu-kannel, voice) of Sild.  These two taught me all my first welsh dance tunes, gave me my first gigs in wales, welcomed me into their home - massive talents and open hearts - whisky and wine, I miss them already...

mai - cerdd-fyw - the living tradition - featuring Ceri Rhys Matthews (flute, pipes, voice, guitar).  Y Dyn Hysbys.  There are very few in Wales who know more about the tradition than this man.  Inspiring, full of humour, grand stories, warm laugh, twinkle of the eye, a true heart - the tradition lives through him - it is an honour...
